Craziest Things I’ve Seen In The Credit Card Processing Industry

The Classic Cord Debacle

I’ll be out setting up a new system and the client has a rat’s nest of cables piled up and we don’t touch them because we don’t want to mess anything up. Well, when we leave, we’ll get the occasional “Hey, my internet doesn’t work!” Well, it wasn’t us because we don’t need to mess with it to get our system up and running but people think we do.

The Printer Mystery

Another issue we see is with printer paper. You know when you make a purchase, and that long string of thermal paper comes out on your receipt? Clients will give us a call saying it’s not printing. The first thing I say is, can you do me a favor and take the paper out, flip it over, and try again? 9 times out of 10 it starts printing because it’s thermal paper and can only print on one side. You often get a little chuckle out of people from that.

The Power Problem

Sometimes we’ll get a call that “stuffs not working.” They say the internet company came out and said the internet is working but every time you use the credit card machine it keeps saying connection error. Must be a faulty machine.

So we’ll go through the troubleshooting process, reset it, unplug and plug it back in, etc. And then finally I’ll drive over and I get back there and see that it just needs to be plugged into the power outlet. You just plug it in and it works and they go, oh my God, you’re a genius! And it was just a simple little cord that needed to be plugged back in.

We get a lot of those little problems and we’re always here to help the client work through it, even if it has nothing to do with us and is a human error or a problem caused by the internet provider. If they call us, we answer.

The Button Pusher

This next one I remember happening on a machine. There’s a little row of buttons that says F1 F2 F3 and F4. These buttons are used to program different functions on the machine.

Well, I told the client you must press F2 and then F4, but if you do it at the same and then it brings up a series of options. Don’t do this on your device because you could end up erasing the data! These are just the crazy things that we kind of see every day. And I’m always trying to make everybody’s life easy when it comes to the processing side.

Those are just a few of the common or crazy situations we see in the credit card processing company, but unlike other companies that won’t answer the phone, call you back, or help you with problems that aren’t directly related to the machine, we will. We’re more of a concierge style of service. When you call our office, we’ll help you resolve your issues and get the answers you need in a timely manner.
